Corvin Promenade in the Heart of the City

The Corvin Promenade project is the largest urban renewal program in Central Europe. The area bound by József Ring Road, Práter Street, Szigony Street, and Üllői Road constitutes a 22 – hectare neighborhood. Along the lengthwise axis of the project area, you will find its emblematic namesake, the green promenade — a continuous public space wider (36 m) than Liszt Ferenc Square and longer than Váci Street (700 m). Modern apartments and retail stores, restaurants and offices, sports facilities, entertainment centers, cultural and educational establishments, and academic
institutions will form this new city center. Project initiators, the Municipality of Józsefváros and the City Government in conjunction with Futureal Group enlisted
sociologists, historical preservationists, environmentalists, traffic engineers, urban designers, and architects to jointly find a solution to significantly improving the constructed environment and the quality of life in this area. Their simple answer to
this complex problem is the multifunctional Corvin Promenade.

Exceptional transportation

Corvin Promenade is almost equidistant from all other parts of the city. The city core is 5 minutes away, while the outer districts can be reached in approximately 10 minutes, and even the airports are within a 20 – minute travel time. Two underground stations providing access to Western and Eastern ends
of the new quarter, and the stops along contiguous surface tram lines No.4&6 are to be refurbished, in order to serve the public with modern and comfortable transportation options. To facilitate optimized flow of vehicular traffic in the area, a reorganized traffic scheme is being implemented and underground parking garages will accommodate close to 5.000 cars. Sidewalks will be returned to pedestrians, the promenade along the axis will be off-limits to cars.
